Mens Elite 8+ Final 15:45: We raced the final a few hours after the semi of Senior eights and the guys put the sore legs behind them to mix it up with the best in the country. The eight finished fifth behind a Brookes/Oxford composite, Thames, 1829, Leander. We did manage to finish in front of Moleseys eight which is planning to race the Ladies plate.
Senior 8+ Semi 13:15, Final 18:45 The same UL crew will be raced Senior eights. After a fantastic semi which saw the UL crew power through London BC's A crew to qualify by 4 hundreds of a sec. The Elite 8's final had taken a lot out of the crew and it showed while still competitive the 5th place did not show the crews full potential.
IM3 8+ Heat 11:40, Rep 15:25, Final 19:05 Our 2nd eight had a fantastic semi with only two to go through it was going to be a big ask against a Goldie development crew, Exeter and Manchester universities first eight. Coming from behind the crew had composure beyond their experience to sprint passed Exeter with 10 strokes to go beating them by less than a second. The crew had to wait until the last race of the day to see if they could go one better, although they put up a good show it was not to be and the crew finished 5th just 3 sec of the winners.
Sunday The first eight were suffering from 3 hard races on the saturday and a very hard weeks training where they complete 12 training sessions. The crew had no speed and didn't make it through their heat but we hope this hard week will stand us in good stead for Henley. The 2nd eight performed excellently in the heat of IM2 8's, once again coming from behind to win by half a length. The inexperience did come out in the final when they got finish line fever, leading the field by over half a length at 500m the speed was never sustainable but the wheels fell off with 500m to go and the crew finished 4th after learning a few lessons. Orla Hayes was just missed out in qualifying for the final of lightweight singles after being beaten by just over a sec in a very strong field. Ruth Carpenter got over her bad performance on the Saturday to win her heat, her final was not quite as good and lost the 2nd place position just strokes from the line. We hope this will be a stepping stone to Women's Henley.
