Duisberg: The trip to Duisberg started with a setback as Kath Copeland was ruled out when an MRI showed damage to a rib which would not let her race. We all wish here a swift recovery. Emily and Beci (UCL) had a good row in their double but couldn't find the energy to keep going to the line in a strong head wind and were passed by a strong Irish double with a few hundred metres to go losing the final qualification spot for the final. On the Sunday Emily showed how far she has come in her 2nd season of sculling by making the final of the lightweight single against a fierce field of seasoned internationals. Bedford: The 1st eight improved with each race of the day and while not being the finished article showed a lot of pace and were able to take victory in Elite College Eights without every being troubled. This was the first victory for Paul Bennet (UCL) and Paul Luttik (LSE). The 2nd eight were unlucky to come up against a strong Ciaus crew with a number of ex Blues in the first round but put in a good performance and the fastest time of the day in the event. The IM3 four made it to the final an were to take on a strong Radley crew who were unfortunately double booked in the Junior eights and were unable to race leaving the four row over to collect their prices. This was the first win for a number of the crew and while not being the way to win your first event it was just reward for the hard training. As Chris Lutterodt said "default, the two best words in the English language". Putney Town: There were only two crews entered for this event and both made the final, its just a shame the race was against each other. Amy Broadbent and Therese Coen showed there dogged determination in training is paying off and won easily. Poplar regatta: The Tyrian Four were not able to show the speed the certainly have on this occasion and finished 3rd in IM1 4+. |
