ULBC show strength at BUCS regatta
Despite having a number of injured athletes, the women demonstrated their strength by bringing home a number of medals for ULBC. This began on Saturday with a silver medal for Emily Gade and women’s captain Beci Humphries in the lightweight double. Beci and Emily then went on to win another silver on Sunday in the lightweight quad, along with Sarah Murphy and Orla Hayes, who also won a silver medal in the single scull. This combination then went on to win a bronze medal on Monday in the heavyweight quad. This success in the heavyweight division not only shows the technical ability of these athletes, but also stands as a testament to their endurance, competing at a high level three days in a row.

The men’s squad also had some success over the weekend. The lightweight quad of Peter Stuart, George Turner, Matt Bedford and Ed Griffiths narrowly missed out on the gold in a tight final to come away with a silver medal and securing a slot on the EUSA squad. Although there were no other medals for the men’s squad, we managed to reach the final in six of the eight events we entered and were able to demonstrate our huge progress since the Head of the River. Both the men’s championship and intermediate eights beat Imperial College and Newcastle, both of whom had a very strong finishes at the Head, and the coxless four finished ahead of Durham, who placed well in March and have a history of success in this event.
